new pediatric heart center celebration

On Feb. 14, 2023, Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children celebrated Valentine’s Day in a very special way. The medical center officially announced the opening of its Pediatric Heart Center, the first and only center of its kind in the state and Pacific region.

Young heart patients joined Kapiolani’s specialized pediatric cardiology teams for the exciting event.

About 200 children are born with a heart defect in the state every year. The Pediatric Heart Center provides critical heart procedures for children in Hawaii, eliminating the need for many local families to travel more than 2,500 miles to the mainland to seek care. The center also encompasses an expanded team, including Kapiolani’s first full-time pediatric heart surgeon, the first pediatric cardiac catheterization laboratory, as well as a comprehensive and collaborative approach to treating Hawaii children with heart conditions.
