Straub Benioff: Forward Progress

“Straub Benioff’s health care campus of the future will change the way care is delivered and will also be a cornerstone of our community for generations to come."
Dawn Dunbar, HPH senior vice president of Philanthropy

Construction crews completed the 20th floor of the new Straub Benioff Medical Center Parking Building in April 2026.

The area around the intersection of King and Kealamakai streets is looking quite different these days. The Parking Building at Straub Benioff Medical Center, which will more than triple the number of stalls of the hospital’s existing parking structure, is coming up quickly. When it’s all said and done, the structure will be 20 stories tall and add more than a thousand stalls for patients, staff and visitors. Adding parking in urban Honolulu will always draw attention, but what’s planned for the top of the building is equally as exciting.

A state-of-the-art meeting and conference center will be a hub for discussions focused on health and well-being. Teams across Hawai‘i Pacific Health will use the technologically advanced center to collaborate on patient care and services, as well as to educate students and members of the community. In recognition of a $4 million gift to the project, the conference center will be named after Hawai‘i Medical Service Association (HMSA).

“We are grateful to HMSA for its generosity and support of this project. The team shares our vision to create a space where clinicians, staff and the community can come together to focus on their health,” said Dawn Dunbar, HPH senior vice president of Philanthropy. “Straub Benioff’s health care campus of the future will change the way care is delivered and will also be a cornerstone of our community for generations to come.”

In addition to the conference center, the top of the Parking Building will have a rooftop garden and a fitness center for HPH employees to enjoy. It is part of the first phase of construction, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. The redevelopment project’s next phase includes demolishing the existing Straub Benioff parking structure to clear the way for a new multistory medical tower with an expanded Emergency Department, marking a new chapter in the medical center’s 105-year history of caring for the community.
